All in Life
You are barely hanging on
A remnant of your former self
And unable to bring back life
Gratitude changes your perspective
Changes your attitude
Changes your life
My heart is an ocean
But my life is a city
And every day they crash into each other
We underestimate our body every day
We ignore it for years
We silence it across a lifetime
We trample over it in the name of work or hustle
And yes, sometimes for your softness to remain
You will have to walk away
When the rocks and tough terrain
Look like piles of sand and dirt
With lines that someone drew with their finger
I’m putting down the phone
The forever long to-do list
No longer ignoring what my body needs
This phase
Like this whole life
Is more about how we show up
When did feeling become a thing
That deserves to be contained instead of processed and expressed
Busy-ness masks it
The demands of running a household crowds it out
The daily seems to erase it bit by bit without your notice
When you stop
Notice
And sit with thankfulness
Drink it in
You become more thankful
Maybe at it’s roots poverty isn’t a money issue
Maybe homelessness isn’t a housing issue
Maybe crime isn’t an anger issue
In a world where busy equals important
And important equals status
‘Still’ is an unpopular choice
