On finding home inside of me
Every time i read a book in front of a window
I think of her
Grandma
With her plastic covered library book
In her recliner
Watching birds out the window in between pages
On Eurana Avenue
And it’s like my cells, my history
Brought me here
Without me even noticing
There is part of her inside of me
Finding a book, a bird, and a window for me to rest in
That’s where home is
Inside me
A culmination of everything and everyone before me
When i open up my heart space
When i look
From the inside
She’s there
My grandma
Holding my hands
Calling me her little heat pump
And she’s within my daughter too
I feel it in her warm hands
And in the way grandma’s words come out of my mouth
The same
When i hold those hands today
Even when the introvert inside of me
Believes she’s alone
I’m not
The past is layered inside of me
Like the rings of a tree centuries old reveals
So my spirit reveals to me
